Nature, evolution and human culture has culminated in today’s society; where the aspiration is for all of humanity to be treaty equally. The reality is far from ideal. In the context of gender equality a lot of changes have happened in the last 100+ years with legal and constitutional frame-works providing support, but transformation of the human species will take time.
As a female the ideal of gender equality and inclusion is very important to me – I want the freedom of being able to make my choices as an individual, as a member of a family and community and in the context of a profession. I want the society in which I operate to respect and accept me and allow me the empowerment. While some of us are fortunate to have this because of education, progressive family support and economic independence a vast majority of human beings have major hurdles to cross.
As an individual we can live in our comfortable cocoon or do something to change the status quo. All change needs to start with self and collective awareness, then engaging in the right way to effect change for this we need to be mindful and compassionate We need to identify activities which will enable us move forward in this evolution as quickly and sustainably as possible. This is a journey for humanity and we have a strong part to play.
